Dear SAOL friends and fellow Panellists!

We are all hopeful for a restart of our beloved SAOL, however, we also have to be realistic: a restart is no small matter due to the enormous amount of payout remaining for the entire community; since almost one year the company has had no income as we panellists also have not had: in other words, as we are hurting financially so is the company.

Very well, this we can understand and accept as mature business people; the thing is that whenever the restart will come, several things must happen as a result of the long interval of inactivity and overhead expenses incurred by the company. So, what does this mean? It means that a realistic expectation for restart once the case has been won in our favor, and not in the favor of the police agencies (which is a real situation) we can expect at least several months before ant sort of actual income generating business can begin.

Why am I saying this now? Because we are SAOL business people and panellists and we must deal in reality as opposed to wishful thinking! We have faith in our company and in our business plan, but we also have a grip on reality. As a run on a bank will destroy the bank, so would a run on the SAOL payout obligations to us all at the moment of start-up!!! Did anyone ever think about this? Also, what would the new plan have to consist of? How many panellists would stay for the new business and what would that actually be?

This I say not to discourage anyone, but to encourage all to take a sober and realistic view of our SAOL situation as faced by the company in real-time. If we are to make SAOL survive, winning the court case is first and foremost, of course, a must; but it is only a small part of the process: we still have to restart in the real sense of the meaning of the word: RE-START! Think about it in business terms and how the Indian market would receive the matter. Surely experience dictates that no actual income generating activity can begin before December 2012, and that only if the case is won, and if the company survives the pay-out period to the starving panellists community.

So now what to do? Well, my dear fellow panellists: we should begin to consider in earnest what will be the actual requirements for a restart scenario and then we should begin to organize ourselves state-wise to facilitate in tandem with the company the entire process on a ground-reality basis that includes AISPA and company officials, where we discuss and plan the comeback process and its requirements both financially and manpower-wise! This we have earned the right to be part of, and this time the company wopuld do well to listen to our collective voice and the various suggestions that would be forthcoming. Are we not also businessmen and women? Do not we know our own market? Since the company values our opinions enough to pay us for them, let them now value our suggestive inputs in an organized manner and thus a concerted effort to save our company and bring a sustainable future can become a reality. Otherwise we are daydreaming and our consumer empowerment has become just another ‘power failure’ or ‘black-out’, which we unfortunately are used to, but suffer greatly from.

What say you all? Are we up to it? Will the company give it yet another go? Action speaks louder than comforting pocket philosophies and such empty prattle: remember our first effort for SAOL? I do: so here we are ready to SPEAK as Asians once again and take up the challenge, or we shall surely die sadly as the laughing stock of the entire market, where lots of people are ready to say with glee: “I told you so!”

    Regards
